art71 - Website Accessibility

Accessibility to websites has become very important and art71 endeavours to code websites to meet the latest industry guidelines on access. We are developing all sites to meet W3C World Wide Web Consortium recommendations and to conform to the U.K. DDA Disability Discrimination Act 2005. This is an ongoing project and during the coming year we aim to bring all client websites in to line with these guidelines. The link below demonstrates, with screen shots from one of our client sites, our approach to making websites fully accessible.

Here, below, is our current accessibility statement for our own website which is our aim for all client sites:

Accessibility and our website

This website has been designed to be simple and straightforward for all users of the Internet. We follow the principles laid down by the World Wide Web Consortium and update our website in line with their guidelines. In particular:

  • This website is designed to be viewable without horizontal scrolling on 1024 monitors
  • No Flash or Frames are used on any part of this website as these cause problems for screen readers
  • We have used the easy-to-read Trebuchet font and have selected dark font colours against a light background colour for easy readability
  • This website is fully navigable without graphics
  • The website is also easily navigable without a mouse by using the TAB key to easily select the next link

Controlling the font size on this website

The text on this website has been coded to allow you as the user to adjust the size. This can help if you have a visual impairment or your monitor settings make it difficult to read the text. Please follow these instructions:

Mozilla Firefox users
Select View from the top of the screen browser menu, then select Text Size followed by Increase or Decrease or Normal

Internet Explorer users
Select View from the top of the screen browser menu, then select Text Size followed by Larger or Smaller

Stylesheets

Users may use their own stylesheet with this website. Internet Explorer users, select Options and then Accessibility. Now click on any of the checkboxes to ignore colours, font styles or sizes. Alternatively, use your preferred style sheet by using Format document using my style sheet. You can then specify colours and fonts.

How to use access keys on this web site

We aim to make our web site accessible to as many people as possible and are implementing the UK Government access keys system. Access keys are keyboard shortcuts which allow a user to navigate a website without using a mouse. This can sometimes be quicker and may assist those with motor skill difficulties.

  • Internet Explorer 5+ users: the alt key + the access number accesses the choice. If a link, Enter will take the user to that destination
  • If using an Apple Mac: Substitute the Ctrl key for the Alt key
