How to retrieve your emails using Mozilla Thunderbird

The following are instructions for Mozilla Thunderbird. For general help on emails please visit our Email Accounts page.

To set up a new Mozilla Thunderbird mail account

  • Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
  • Click on Tools > Account Settings
  • Click Add Account in lower part of box.
  • Leave Email account option selected and click Next.
  • Enter Your name as you want it to appear in any message you send.
  • Type your e-mail address, for example, your.name@your-domain.com, and click Next.
  • Select the protocol of your incoming mail server. This should be POP.
  • Specify the mail domain name as the incoming mail server and outgoing mail server (for example, mail.your-domain.com), and click Next.
  • Type your e-mail address in the Incoming User Name box, for example, your.name@your-domain.com
  • Enter the name you would like to refer to this account and click Next.
  • Verify that the information is correct and click Finish.
  • Enter your password when prompted and select the tick box to remember password.

To configure Mozilla Thunderbird to enable secure server authentication

  • Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
  • Click on Tools > Account Settings
  • Under your mail account select Server settings
  • Click the box Use secure authentication
  • Note: If you Internet Service Provider does not allow you to send mail through your account you will get an error message informing you that you must change the SMTP outgoing mail server settings. You should follow the instructions of your Internet Service Provider and you will probably UNcheck this box

How to check or modify your mail settings in Mozilla Thunderbird

  • Open Mozilla Thunderbird and click on Tools > Account Settings
  • Select Server settings and Outgoing (SMTP) to view the settings
  • POP3: This entry should be in format mail.your-domain.com so if your website is www.onearm.co.uk the entry in this box should be mail.onearm.co.uk
  • SMTP: This entry should be as above mail.your-domain.com but you may need to change it to your Internet Service provider's SMTP server settings.
  • Account name: This should be the full email address your.name@your-domain.com
  • Password: This will be provided via art71. If you dont have your password, please contact art71 support.
